You can support their work by purchasing your own copy of the journal, which includes many other articles around the theme of anarchist-feminisms, from AK Press. The Black Rose Anarchist Federation sent a delegation to participate in AFem2014, an international anarchist feminist conference developed by a committee of anarchists organizing in the UK. The goals of AFem2014 were to challenge sexism and other forms of oppression within the anarchist movement and to create a “safer space” to start conversations around individual and collective experiences that could be translated into organizing work. The conference committee hoped that the energy generated by this event would reinvigorate anarchist feminism as a whole, and would be reproduced as an ongoing series of conferences with a global impact. When viewed from this perspective, AFem2014 was an important political development that highlights the growth of anarchism and the need to advance the theory and practice of feminism within it. However, the Black Rose delegation left AFem2014 with more questions than answers, the foremost being, “What is anarchist feminism?”

Demonstration Against the Police in Maniwaki

As part of the week against police brutality, the Outaouais region mobilized like every year to create a series of events denouncing the violence of the Gatineau police and the SQ. This year, community organizations from the region and activists also decided to rent a bus to go to Maniwaki in support of two families that have faced the violence of SQ officers. In 2015, Brandon Maurice was killed, shot by an SQ cop, and in 2018, a friend of the Maurice family, Steven Bertrand, was shot in the dead by a courthouse guard who refused to let him leave to smoke a cigarette.

We chose to say loud and clear that the police is nothing but an instrument of the state that abuses its power, all while protecting the rich and fascists Continue reading

Vienna: Angry spontaneous demonstration for Efrin as a contribution for the International Solidarity Day on 24th of March

Around 100 people gathered in Vienna on 10 pm to have a 30 minutes long spontaneous, angry and wild demonstration on the international solidarity day for Efrin. The demonstration was an expression of the rage and anger against the occupation of Efrin by NATO, the Turkish army, IS-fascists and other allies. The front banner said `Fight4Afrin`. Loud slogans were chanted through the streets, like `Biji Berxwedane Efrine`(Long live the Resistance of Efrin`, `Ueberall Efrin, Ueberall Widerstand` (Everywhere Efrin, Everywhere Resistance), `Solidaritaet heisst Widerstand, Kampf dem Faschismus in jedem Land` (Solidarity means resistance,  fighting against fascism in each country) or `Alerta, Alerta Antifascista`. There was a lot of different pyrotechnic material used. Continue reading

Canada , Hamilton ON: The Tower Anarchist Social Centre’s Statement on Recent Events

From The Tower, Hamilton’s Anarchist Social Centre, after their windows were smashed Sunday night and then their door kicked in Tuesday night

We’ve held off on making any public statements so far because it’s really not our desire to have conversations on the internet, such a toxic and alienating place. But having had our space attacked twice in the last couple of days, we feel like it’s important to share a few reflections and be clear about where we stand.

First, no, the actions on Locke and Aberdeen on Saturday night were not organized by the Tower, but yes, we support what happened and are in solidarity with those who carried them out. Class war is happening every day in this city, with constant attacks on poor and working people. It’s disappointing that so many only care about the occasional moment when a bit of anger flows back the other way. The ongoing effects of gentrification in this city are heartbreaking – waves of displacement, growing violence, and intensifying poverty. You cannot expect for all of this to just be swept under the proverbial rug. We have zero tears to shed for Locke st. Continue reading

‘If Afrin Falls…It Will Have Been Too Late’ – Call for a Campaign of Militant Direct Action across Europe

Received on 09.03.18:

For more than 6 weeks we have had to watch the Turkish state attack and occupy, together with Islamist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaida, Afrin, the most western canton of Rojava. In this extermination campaign, the invaders are neither deterred by the deliberate bombardment of civilians nor by the use of chemical weapons. The Islamist mercenaries and fascist Turkish soldiers leave a trail of devastation, plunder, rape and murder, they practice an ethnic cleansing of the territory of Kurds. So far, more than 300 civilians and many militants have given their lives, dozens of villages have been destroyed and hundreds of thousands of people have had to leave their homes. Continue reading
